By the grace of our Srila Prabhupada and those exalted compassionate teachers of our parampara (lineage) the doors have opened for all of us to spend this priceless time together in Sri Vrindavan dham, where the opportunity to access the higest treasure of bhakti is being given to all of us.
The ahankara, or false ego, puts us in a state where we want to be important in the eyes of this world. And in that state, if someone is given more importance than ourselves we become envious. And we become, in an egoistic way, very competitive. Or else we become discouraged and depressed because we don’t have that position. And somehow or other we convince ourselves that we are in a superior position, whether be it in our knowledge or our accomplishments, or in any other way. We become very proud. But the very basic principle of bhakti teachings is that our happiness is in the opportunity to serve and we are deeply grateful just to be the servant of the servant.
Whether we are empowered to do great things in eyes of the world or whether we are empowered just to sweep the floor, God sees the sincerity of our intent. The great saints of the bhakti tradition have given us literature that take us from the preliminary states of just coming to the path of devotion, up to the highest realms of bhakti. But we must follow in their footsteps. We can’t understand what is in their books unless we imbibe or at least strive to imbibe the qualities which empowered them to give us this incredible knowledge – their humility, their eagerness to serve, their disposition of total non-enviousness was so attractive to God that he revealed the highest treasures of bhakti through them, and through them taught us how we can understand and realize it.
